Deborah teaches music education at Oakland University where she and her
colleagues envision a constructivist approach to music learning and teaching. In the undergraduate program, Deborah teaches educational psychology, elementary and secondary general methods, choral methods, coordinates the undergraduate music education program, and supervises student teachers. In the graduate program, Deborah teaches and advises Graduate Research, teaches Graduate educational psychology, team teaches Doctoral Seminar, and teaches a variety of summer graduate classes. Current research interests include the application of constructivist theory in music education, music listening, learners with exceptionalities, and all levels of teacher education. She is co-editor (with Kimberly McCord) of "Exceptional Pedagogy for Children with Exceptionalities: International Perspectives" (Oxford, 2016). "Songs for You and Me" is a self-published collections of sing along songs for children of all abilities available in iBooks.
